My 'Dance & Movement' project is a series of process based artworks exploring imagined lines made by the trajectory of the feet when dancing tango. This concept formed a major part of my Masters of Art degree UNSW Art & Design, Sydney
The feet maintain a connection with the floor whilst changing weight. The movement and 'groundedness'of the free leg connects with the music giving the dance its own character and creating a patina of imagined patterns on the floor. Using a prepared surface, the resulting marks are unique every time.
'Drawing the Language of Dance' is an ongoing project and includes a series of light paintings (large photographic prints, archival ink on paper), performance drawings and videos. See all videos on www.youtube.com/jalexrae
